OSWEGO COUNTY – Fifth-grade students at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School recently participated in the Hovercraft Project, an engaging, hands-on learning experience that combined science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with important life skills.
Through the project, students explored the science and engineering principles behind hovercraft technology, then put their knowledge to the test by building their own hovercrafts. The experience culminated in an opportunity for students to ride the hovercrafts they helped create.
Beyond the science and engineering concepts, the project encouraged students to develop problem-solving, teamwork, communication and critical-thinking skills. By working through the design and building process, students learned how creativity, collaboration and perseverance can help turn an idea into reality.
