HANNIBAL – Hannibal High School senior and chorus student Kayla Martinez-Muñoz will perform at the 2026 NYSSMA All-State Winter Conference in Rochester in December, according to a release from the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation.
The conference brings together student musicians from across New York state. Participants must audition and perform for a judge. Martinez-Muñoz earned a score of 99, securing her a place in the festival.
Her selection marks the first time in recent school history that a Hannibal Central School District student has been selected to participate, according to the release.
“I feel really accomplished because this has been a dream since seventh grade,” Martinez-Muñoz said. “I attribute my success to (HHS music teacher) Dr. Denise Ellis and past music directors who have always supported me and encouraged me to do my best.”
Ellis said she is proud of Martinez-Muñoz and the work she has put into developing her skills as a vocalist.
“Kayla has worked incredibly hard to reach this level, and I am so proud of her,” said Dr. Ellis. “Her achievements are a manifestation of a student who envisions things for herself and then works toward achieving them. It’s a testament to how hard she works and the dreams and goals she sets for herself.”
At the conference, Martinez-Muñoz will perform alongside other student musicians from throughout New York state while working with music educators and conductors.
