HANNIBAL – Seventeen Hannibal High School students are preparing for a spring enrichment opportunity in Spain.

The students are all members of the school’s Spanish Club and have been raising money for the trip through various events during the school year.
Recently, the club held its largest fundraiser to date: a circus at Fairley Elementary School that netted more than $1,000 for trip-related expenses.
According to Hannibal Middle School Spanish teacher and club adviser Michele Gowans, the outpouring of support has been tremendous.
“The community, parents, teachers, staff members and students have all chipped in to make this trip a reality,” Gowans said. “I am in awe by all the support.”
With the bulk of the fundraising complete, students are looking forward to the trip itself.
They will have an opportunity to delve into Spanish culture through several activities in a number of cities.
“The 10-day trip will be full of memorable life experiences,” Gowans said. “The students will learn about culture and history, and they will also develop life skills such as money management, communication and independence.”
