Harborfest, Step One Creative Expand Partnership

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Harbor Festivals announced that Oswego-based marketing firm Step One Creative has been contracted to assist Harborfest in the procurement of festival sponsorships and business memberships.

Step One Creative will assume responsibility of renewing and building a majority of existing sponsorships and business memberships while at the same time, developing and maintaining new Harborfest clients.

“The board of directors and I felt that instead of trying to find the perfect person to coordinate sponsorships and memberships, why not bring on a professional agency experienced in event planning and familiar with our festival,” said Harborfest Executive Director Tom Van Schaack. “We have an existing relationship with Shane (Stepien) and his staff, and are excited and fortunate that Step One Creative was willing to expand their involvement with Harborfest.”

Established in 1996, Step One Creative, a division of Step One Communications, LLC, is a marketing communications firm that offers full-service advertising design, brand development, public relations, copywriting, media planning/placement, marketing research, and capital campaign development to organizations and businesses throughout Central and Upstate New York.

For the past several years, Harborfest has utilized the services of Step One Creative for its annual marketing campaigns, media planning and placement.

“Step One Creative has a working knowledge of Harborfest,” said Shane Stepien, president of Step One Creative. “We are looking forward to our expanded role with Tom and the rest of the Harborfest staff in continuing the great tradition that Harborfest has created over the last 23 years. Step One Creative has existing relationships with many of the same companies and businesses that support Harborfest, but we also feel that we can help bring in new support for this great community event.”

Harborfest, an annual admission-free festival, will continue to internally service a handful of sponsors and members, including all individual “friends of the festival.”

“Our goal in bringing Step One Creative on board in this capacity was to not only bring in new sponsors and business members who we could not have reached, but also to better serve our existing sponsors and members in a professional and enthusiastic manner,” said Van Schaack. “With Step One’s help, we will be able to present opportunities to more potential Harborfest supporters that will hopefully allow the festival to be admission-free for many years to come.”
