Students at Hastings-Mallory Elementary did their best to add warmth to the coldest time of the year, by helping to decorate ‘Blizzard Bags’ for the Meals on Wheels program.

This local program is provided by Oswego County Opportunities and delivers these bags as part of their Nutrition Services Program.
Each student decorated a paper bag that Meals on Wheels will use to fill up with shelf-stable items, such as peanut butter, oatmeal, cereal bars and canned foods.
These ‘Blizzard Bags’ will then be delivered to Oswego County residents, so that they will have food to eat on days that deliveries cannot be made, due to inclement weather.

Students were also encouraged to make snowflake ornaments and cards with messages of encouragement, in order to offer comfort and make each recipient’s day a little brighter.

Central Square School District has also been collecting nonperishable food items, as part of this ongoing effort.
