Head Start Recruitment Under Way

Head Starts located throughout Oswego County, a program under Oswego County Opportunities, Inc., will be accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year.

Head Start serves children from ages 3 to 4 in seven center based locations throughout the county. The program has a dedicated staff that includes teachers with masters or bachelor’s degrees in education, teaching assistants, classroom aides, family services specialists, cooks and nurses.

Head Start is a family centered program that partners with families and encourages parental engagement in their child’s education.

Families who meet income guidelines and whose children are 3 or 4 years old before August 1 are eligible to apply.

Children with disabilities are invited to participate in the program as well.

Head Start is a high quality federally funded pre-school program with a goal of promoting school readiness education by helping children develop socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually.

Children enjoy participating and learning fun and exciting activities through active play indoors and outdoors through hands-on learning experiences, while learning new words, learning to get along with peers, learning to count, expressing their feelings, developing self-confidence and getting nutritious meals and snacks during their day.

Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their child(ren) in Head Start may contact the program’s main office at 315-598-4711 for more information on the 2018 application days dates, times and locations that are coming to their area in April and May.

Parent/guardians will need proof of their 2017 income, the child’s birth certificate and the child’s shot record will be needed for enrollment.
