At its December, 2024 meeting, the members of the Cleveland Historical Society OSWEGO COUNTY – recognized Abby Cook, a Central Square High School Senior for her service to the Oswego County northshore community by cleaning gravestones, and helping to keep the legacy of past Oswego County residents alive. Not exactly how many other teens spend their time! Her work advances cemetery preservation throughout Oswego County as Abby has cleaned 283 graves stones in 2024 in the following cemeteries:  St. Mary’s in Cleveland, Maple Flats, Cleveland Village Cemetery, Lakeside Rural Cemetery in Bernhards Bay and the Constantia Rural Cemetery. On her Facebook page Abby reads epitaphs of some of the individuals she has researched. Fascinating history has been revealed bringing awareness and humility to those long forgotten. She has documented the history of these individuals on her Facebook page titled, “Always Remembered.”  This action breathes life into long forgotten individuals, one headstone at a time. The Cleveland Historical Society Board of Directors is tremendously grateful for her volunteer service.
