High School Students Encouraged To Apply For Youth Leadership Program

OSWEGO, NY – Leadership Oswego County Youth (LOCY) is accepting applications for its 13th year of youth leadership training experience.

The program is open to all high school students in Oswego County.

Preference is given to those entering their freshman or sophomore years that have shown leadership potential and a desire to learn.

The training will take place during the 2011-2012 school year and requires permission from the student’s school to be excused from classes one day a month.

“Leadership Oswego County Youth teaches young people skills that will enable them to make a difference in their school and community,” said Brian Chetney Youth Services Specialist for the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. “The program provides an opportunity for youth to learn about future leadership opportunities such as serving on the Youth Advisory Council and other advisory boards, becoming an officer in a school club, being a team leader in sports and becoming involved in community volunteer groups.”

Interested students should contact the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau office at 349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3451 or e-mail [email protected] for an application.

The deadline to apply is May 20.

Students who are chosen will be notified during the second week of June; other students will be placed on a waiting list.
