Holiday Happenings at CNY Arts Center

FULTON, NY – With the holidays rapidly approaching CNY Arts Center is gearing up to celebrate its first holiday season in the new facility located in the lower level of State Street Methodist Church, 357 State St., in Fulton.

Holiday baking, shopping, decorating, gift making, and celebrations are all finding room on the calendar for the arts organization serving the region with all arts for all ages.

November kicks off with a jewelry class teaching the art and technique of jewelry making, and ink drawing for the beginning artist running three Wednesdays, Nov. 7-21.

Thanksgiving treats will continue the series of cake and cupcake decorating with a 9 a.m. – noon workshop Nov. 10.

Fall themed arts and crafts will be offered for children on the same day along with an oil painting workshop guiding beginner artists to create an original oil painting that could become a special holiday gift for a loved one.

The oil workshop will be offered again on Nov. 20 with a second painting model.

Parents can find child care relief while shopping when CNY Arts Center offers Kids Day Out, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

With arts and crafts, games, and story time, a volunteer staff will supervise children while parents work through their holiday shopping around town.

November will also see the continuation of the popular Writer’s Café, Nov. 11 and the Author Spotlight Nov. 14 featuring Driftwords contributors reading excerpts from the first published anthology of local authors and a Christmas memoirs class running three Fridays from Nov. 30 – Dec. 14.

The studio arts program will host a new event for local artists of any medium or genre.

Artist’s Café Nov. 25 from 6-9 p.m. is designed to be an informal gathering to motivate sharing of creative ideas and techniques.

Artists are encouraged to bring their portfolio to share.

That event will be followed Nov. 28 with an artist’s spotlight featuring the work of an individual artist yet to be announced.

December continues the holiday theme with the premiere of Yes, Virginia…The Musical on Dec. 7-16.

An oil painting class Dec. 4 and an acrylic workshop Dec. 11 will help students prepare unique holiday gifts of original art.

A holiday open house Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. invites the community to tour the center and see what’s in store for the coming year while Christmas Classic desserts and Christmas Crafts round out the holiday season Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. – noon.

Writer’s Café returns on Dec. 9 and a final Author Spotlight Dec. 12 will feature new author C.V. Abbott.
