Homelessness Discussed At Oswego Sunrise Rotary

OSWEGO, NY – Homelessness is a problem in Oswego County that often goes unnoticed.

Homeless young people are seldom found sleeping outside.

They sleep on couches in their friends’ homes, stay with neighbors for a night and move on.

They may have had problems in their family homes or their parents have moved to find work in a new location.

Homeless youth need temporary shelter until a permanent residence or until they can be returned to their parents’ home.

Amy Baldwin, rural host home specialist, heads a program that works with children who are homeless.

She is seeking homes that will host a young person for a short time, while attempts are made to find a home for these displaced people.

Efforts are made to reunite families where possible.

Efforts are made to find independent living arrangements for those who can not return to their family home.
