Plans are well underway for the 12th Annual Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta on Saturday, June 11th at the International Marina/Oswego Yacht Club. Last year’s Regatta was a success, raising over $20,000 to support Oswego County Hospice patients and their families. For the fourth consecutive year, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group is the major sponsor of the event.

Funds raised at events like the Regatta enable the Friends of Hospice to provide financial resources to Hospice patients and their families to relieve unnecessary burdens when they are already dealing with the life-limiting illness of a loved one. The Friends of Hospice also provide the financial resources to maintain the Hospice Volunteer Program and operate Camp Rainbow of Hope, a free bereavement program for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

“We are so pleased to have Constellation Energy and the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station as the major sponsor of the event again this year,” said Debbie Bishop, executive director of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice. “Without the support of our community partners such as Constellation, we would not be able to support the Hospice program, patients and families at the level we do.”

This year, the Regatta’s 5K walk run is part of the SUNY Oswego Sesquicentennial Reunion and starts at 8:30 a.m. in front of Culkin Hall on Campus. Friends of Hospice is partnering with the Oswego Alumni Association and the Oswego YMCA for this part of the day’s events. Proceeds will benefit Hospice and the SUNY Oswego Possibility Scholarship program.

The sailing races get underway at 10:00 a.m. A spectator boat will be available for anyone who wants to view the Regatta from the water. The Laura D will depart from the International Marina at 9:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended.

Capping off the day’s events is the Hospice/Sailor reception that begins at 4:00 p.m. This reception, open to the public, will feature a buffet hosted by Lighthouse Lanes with a wide variety of food donated by local restaurants, entertainment by Ontario, a silent auction and drawings. Reservations are required for the dinner.
