Housing Visions Development Director Guest Speaker At Heritage Foundation Meeting

OSWEGO, NY – The annual meeting for the Heritage Foundation will be held Aug. 5.

It will start at 7 p.m. in the historic Oswego County Courthouse at the corner of East Second and Oneida streets.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Ben Lockwood, director of Development of Housing Visions Unlimited, a nonprofit neighborhood preservation company based in Syracuse.

Housing Visions has rehabilitated and restored dozens of historic properties throughout Central New York since its formation in 1990.

This group was established in an effort to become a positive catalyst for change in the East Genesee district, for what was then a severely deteriorated district in Syracuse.

A goal was established by a local group of dedicated citizens to create a successful model of neighborhood revitalization for the city.

Since that time the organization has expanded, successfully developing and completing projects in Auburn, Binghamton, Cortland and Utica.

This group is currently rehabilitating the Hamilton Homes complex in the city of Oswego.

Lockwood will give a presentation that will focus on projects that have restored historic properties and discuss the projects currently under way in Oswego.

“I hope anyone interested in preservation or neighborhood revitalization will attend this informative program,” said Justin White, Heritage Foundation president. “This group has had tremendous success in Central New York. Initiatives such as this could potentially relate to further planning and development in Oswego County.”

An optional tour of the historic courthouse will begin prior to the meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and is open to the public.

The Heritage Foundation of Oswego County is a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote and protect the county’s historic and architectural resources.
