On Saturday, December19th from 11 to 2 pm the Oswego County Humane Society will hold its final “Home 4 the Holidays” Adoption Day at the Tractor Supply Company, Rt. 104 East, Oswego, New York. Cats and kittens and adult dogs will be available for adoption and every pet older than four months will have its adoption fee reduced by half for that day only. Porky and Buddy, the Humane Society’s official mascots will be there to entertain kids (of all ages) and there will be coffee and cookies and treats for children.

The Humane Society has joined more than 3500 other shelters and organizations for the world-wide Iams Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption campaign to find homes for pets in its care. The overall goal for the campaign this year is 1.5 million new homes. For the Humane Society, the goal is 250 new homes by the end of the campaign on January 4th, 2010. According to Diane Broadwell, chair of animal services for the Humane Society, “We have almost reached our goal with 235 adoptions right now, but we have many wonderful pets still in foster care and we decided that in these tough economic times, it is more important to find homes for pets than to let adoption fees stand in the way.”

Every pet adopted will be spayed or neutered and up to date on its vaccinations, and as each pet finds a home, its picture on the Humane Society’s Holiday Adoption Sign will be lit. “Having a pet will light up your holiday, and finding a home will light up the life of our homeless animals,” says Karen Hoffman, president of the Humane Society, “It’s a win-win!”
