Iris And Hosta Program Planned

MEXICO, NY – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County is offering an Iris and Hosta Program.

The program will be presented by Jan Smith, Oswego County Master Gardener, on May 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office, 3288 Main St.

Jan has been growing Iris and Hosta for more than 30 years and has a vast knowledge of both of these perennial plants.

She is a member of the American Iris Society and Central New York Iris Society.

Jan has been a registered garden and show judge for the past six years through the American Iris Society and she coordinates an Iris and Hosta Show annually during the Oswego County Fair.

Jan will discuss the basic care of Iris and Hosta, teach you how to trouble shoot for diseases, give you tips on how to prepare for flower shows, teach you the difference between varieties and types/requirements for different types of Iris and Hosta as well as how and when to divide these perennials.

The cost to attend the program is $15.
