OSWEGO, NY – Bored with your summer vacation? Looking for something to do?
This is the perfect time for students, along with one adult, to visit the H. Lee White Marine Museum and enter one of two contests to win cash prizes.
Whether your strength is art or writing, visit the museum to tour the exhibits and prepare an entry inspired by some particular topic, exhibit or artifact.
This is the museum’s 10th year offering these contests to Oswego County students.
The first contest, “Write Away!,†is a creative writing contest for grades 4 – 12.
The second contest, “Art & History Rule!,†is a fun and educational art contest for grades 1-12.
This year a photography category has been added.
The story, poem, essay, photo or artwork must be original and prepared by the entrant during these contests, specifically for the contests.
The deadline for the writing contest is Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.
The deadline for the art contest is Sept. 30.
Due to the popularity of these contests, both deadlines have been extended.
Thanks to generous sponsors, the museum is offering cash prizes for the three best entries in each of three grade categories.
Art contestants in grades 1 – 3 will be awarded special non-competitive gifts for participating.
Last year’s winners came from all across Oswego County; this year it could be you.
Contest sponsors include Alliance Bank, Mrs. Norma DeAmbra, Stewart’s Shop, Rotary Club Of Oswego – Sunrise, Oswego County Retired Teachers Association, Oswego Classroom Teachers Association and Children’s Board of Oswego.
