Loretta and Lynn are beautiful, with long haired gray and white fur, about eight months old, and unusually calm and affectionate for their age. At one time they were obviously with someone who cared for them, but for some reason they were abandoned. They are typical of the adoptable pets in the Oswego County Humane Society’s foster program. They were found wandering in the woods in a remote area in Scriba and were rescued by kind-hearted animal lovers who knew to call the Humane Society for help. In fact, Lynn spent three days in a tree, too fearful to come down, and her rescuers had to finally borrow a bucket truck to get her.
Loretta and Lynn, along with many kittens of all shapes, sizes, colors, characteristics and personalities will be available for adoption on Saturday, July 12th , at the Humane Society’s “Hordes of Kittens” Adoption Day, from 11 A.M to 3 P.M at the Tractor Supply Company, 104 East, Oswego, New York (located in the Price Chopper Plaza). There are short-haired and long haired kittens, thin elegant kittens, chunky short kittens, calicos, tigers, tabbies, some with extra toes, and some with green eyes. There will also be five eight week old shepherd/lab/beagle mix puppies. Every pet adopted from the Humane Society is eligible for 30 days of free pet health care insurance from sheltercare.com.
Prospective owners will have the opportunity to choose and pick up their new pet after references have been checked. Those adopters who are interested in going home with one of these pets should bring veterinary references and, if they are renters, bring written consent from their landlord in order to take the pet home. They should also bring a sturdy cat carrier. The adoption fee is $75 for kittens, $50 for older cats and $150 for puppies. Such fees cover a portion of the veterinary expenses that the Humane Society incurs. All animals have been spayed or neutered (babies will be spayed or neutered before they are released for final adoption) and each animal is current with shots and has also been checked for ear mites and parasites. Cats and kittens all have also been tested for feline leukemia and are litter trained.
All of these animals have been rescued by the Humane Society, sometimes from horrendous conditions. They are now living in private foster homes and are therefore well socialized. Foster families have the opportunity to report how well they get along with other cats, dogs and children.
