OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego Class of 1991 alumnus John Salamone, chief human capital officer for the Chief Administrative Officer at the U.S. House of Representatives, will be the featured guest during the university’s third annual Sheldon Lecture on Leadership and Service. Taking place at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, in the university’s Hewitt Hall ballroom, the event is free and open to the public.

Salamone will share insights about leadership and service – key hallmarks of Edward Austin Sheldon, SUNY Oswego’s founder – through a moderated conversation of his life, experiences, personal stories and thoughts on various issues. SUNY Oswego President Peter O. Nwosu will moderate this personal and interactive fireside chat.

“At SUNY Oswego, we take great pride in preparing students to succeed, contribute to their communities and help build a stronger workforce — a commitment we share with Mr. Salamone,” President Nwosu said. “I look forward to hearing how his leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives is helping to shape our nation’s future, and exploring how universities like ours can prepare the next generation of talent to meet its challenges and opportunities. We are especially proud that Mr. Salamone began his journey here at SUNY Oswego, carrying forward the legacy of our founder, Edward Austin Sheldon, who believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives.”

As chief human capital officer at the House, Salamone leads human resources and workforce strategy to support approximately 10,000 House members, officers and staff. Since joining the organization in 2016, Salamone has led a comprehensive strategy to enhance human resource services at the House. His current team provides important services to help Member, Committee and Leadership Offices recruit, develop and retain staff.

Salamone has extensive experience in the government and private sector. Prior to joining the House, he served as vice president at a private sector management consulting company overseeing a team of human capital consultants who provided innovative services to government agencies. He was also the federal government’s second executive director of the Chief Human Capital Officers Council at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Prior to that, he was a professional staff member on the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on the Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce and the District of Columbia. Salamone was also a presidential management fellow at OPM and began his career as a Senate intern in a district office and eventually moved to Washington to serve as the office’s assistant personnel director.

Salamone has a master’s in public administration from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from SUNY Oswego. He is also a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and a former strategic advisor for government executives with the Partnership for Public Service.

During his time at Oswego, Salamone played men’s varsity soccer. He met his wife and fellow Laker athlete – a cross-country standout and Oswego State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Jeannine Muoio Salamone. The couple established the John ‘91 and Jeannine Muoio Salamone ‘92 Scholarship for an incoming student with financial need in the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Engineering, and they are also members of the Sheldon Legacy Society.

In 2004, John and Jeannine Salamone received the SUNYAC Award of Valor, in recognition of their ability to overcome obstacles and serve as an inspiration to others. Both of them overcame serious health challenges when they were younger and faced their illnesses with positivity and resilience, becoming inspiring role models for others battling serious illnesses. At home in the Washington, D.C., area, they are active volunteers with the Warrior Canine Connection Organization, which enlists veterans in a therapeutic mission of learning to train service dogs for fellow veterans.

John Salamone generously shares his time and expertise with his alma mater, returning to speak in classes and at events, including the Student-Athlete Career Readiness Conference in September 2025. He served as a member of the Reunion Engagement and Philanthropy Committee in 2016 when his class celebrated its 25th reunion. He also serves on the Human Resources Advisory Group for SUNY Oswego’s College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Salamone has a strong commitment to developing others as a Certified Professional Coach. In the spring, he will teach “Human Resources Management in the Public Sector” as an adjunct faculty member for George Mason University’s master of public administration program. He has volunteered as a recreation and travel soccer coach for the Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club in Alexandria, Va., since 2009, and he currently serves as the president of its board.
