Eighth grader Kayla Wood shows off the windbreaker she won during the first-quarter awards ceremony.
The first marking period is in the books and there were plenty of reasons to celebrate at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School.

Nearly 225 students earned recognition for their attendance and academic success to start the school year.
To honor their accomplishments, teachers and administrators hosted a breakfast in the morning for seventh and eighth graders, and an ice cream social in the afternoon for fifth and sixth grade students.
“Being here takes effort on your part. You’re here because of you,” Principal Shawn Morgan told the honorees. “We’re proud of our students. We’re proud of our school and you’re the reasons why.”
