OSWEGO, NY – The Kingsford Park Math Extravaganza was highly successful.
At the beginning of the summer the teachers sent home math flash cards.
Students were encouraged to study these cards throughout the “dog days of summer.â€Â
When school commenced, teacher Kelly Moxley had said, “Basic math facts will come quickly for children entering fourth grade and this is an opportunity to get a head start.â€Â
Just two days after the fourth graders returned to their classrooms the “extravaganza†took place.
Oswego businesses including the river’s end book store, Man-in-the-Moon Candies and Wal-Mart contributed prizes for the top-scoring students.
Moxley said, “Students had three minutes to complete 50 math facts and many were well prepared.â€Â
Hari Nanthakumar and Cassie Romeo tied for first place with a perfect score of 50.
Hari won the one minute tie-breaker with a perfect score of 50 and received $25 worth of gift cards from river’s end book store, Man-in-the Moon Candies and Wal-Mart.
Cassie was runner up with a perfect 50 on the three minutes facts test to receive $20 worth of gift cards.
Dawson Izyk earned third with a score of 49 in the three minute math facts for $15 in gift cards from the supporting businesses.
Among the fourth grade classrooms Moxley’s class earned the overall Math Extravaganza award with 636 correct answers to earn a pizza party.
Moxley noted, “Congratulations goes out to all of the fourth grade students who did such a fabulous job with the Math Extravaganza.â€Â
