A big school assembly at Lanigan Elementary School had one, simple message: “Thank you, veterans.”

Students and staff members applauded, cheered and waved paper American flags as over one dozen veterans paraded into the school’s cafeteria for a special Veterans’ Day ceremony.
Principal Jeff Hendrickson encouraged students to both thank and show appreciation for the men and women who served their country.
Together, everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance and stood proudly as the national anthem was sung by Morgan Rhoads.
The audience watched a short video, which featured messages from Lanigan students on what Veterans’ Day means to them.
Several students in grades kindergarten through six then sang a special “Thank You” song to all of the veterans.
After each guest of honor was recognized by Hendrickson, they were led out of the cafeteria by bagpiper Elliot Smith.
