Beatles tribute band, Magical Mystery Tour will headline Oswego County Opportunities’ first ever “Playing For Poverty” event.  Hosted by OCO’s Youth Services Division, “Playing For Poverty” will be held at the Fulton War Memorial on Saturday, September 13th from 12 n to 10 pm.

“We’ve planned a full day of music and fun to help raise awareness of homelessness and poverty in Oswego County,” said Heather Robinson of OCO’s Street Outreach Services.  “The music will begin at 1:30 with a solo acoustic performance by Marc Warner and continue throughout the day and night with appearances by The Cortini Brothers, Rubber Ducky Revenge, The Swivel Rockers, and a special performance by our headline act, Magical Mystery Tour.”

Robinson as well as co-coordinator, Amy Baldwin of OCO’s ACT For Youth Program, will be on hand to talk with community members about OCO’s many programs that address the issue of homelessness and encourage them to join OCO in the fight against homelessness and poverty in Oswego County.

While admission “Playing For Poverty” is free, Robinson encourages those attending to bring non-perishable food items for donation to local food pantries at Catholic Charities of Oswego County and the Salvation Army in both Oswego and Fulton as well as the OCO Youth Emergency Services (YES!) program for runaway and homeless youth.

In addition to the music there will be raffles for gift certificates from more than 25 Oswego County businesses, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and food as the War Memorial concession stand will be open.  All proceeds raised during the event will be donated to Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army’s food pantries.

ACT for Youth (Assets Coming Together) is a youth planning and development initiative in the Fulton Community.  Street Outreach Services (SOS) workers seek youth where they hang out and provide them with education and support to bridge them to local community services as needed. SOS also offers Drop-in Centers in Oswego County. These centers give youth a safe place for healthy activities during after school hours.

ACT for Youth is funded by the New York State Department of Health through OCO, Inc Youth Service Division. Street Outreach Services (SOS) is funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services. YES! is funded by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and the NYS Department of Education.  OCO is a non-profit agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966. www.oco.org.
