OSWEGO COUNTY – Mark your calendars for the New York State Maple Producers Association’s annual “Maple Weekends.” Several local maple sugar bushes will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21, and March 27 and 28.

Maple Hollow Farm on county Route 85 in Hannibal and Red Schoolhouse Maple on county Route 4 in Fulton will be open for tours and sampling throughout both weekends.

“Visitors can learn how maple sap is turned into the sweet treat we all enjoy, whether it is boiled over an open fire or processed through state-of-the-art equipment,” said David Turner, director of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. Visitors be able to sample pure maple syrup, an all-natural product with no artificial ingredients. Maple products will be available for purchase as well.

Several local maple farms are open for tours by appointment only. They include: Heritage Hill Farm, Nemier Road, Lacona; Maple Help Stock Farms, Hurlbut Road, Mexico; Sticky Situations, county Route 176, Fulton; and Sugar Shack Jack’s, county Route 22, Parish.

The event began nearly 15 years ago in Wyoming County as “Maple Sunday” and has grown to a state-wide, two-weekend celebration of the maple sugaring process. For details about “Maple Weekends,” visit www.mapleweekend.com.
