He advised that along with employment, the recreation activities that people participate in helps to define who they are.

The activities the consumers participate in helps to develop and enhance independence among developmentally disabled adults.

The groups have opportunities to fish, attend baseball games, snow-shoe, camp and bowl.

They also go on shopping trips and visit museums.

Marc told of a 66-year-old disabled adult that worked all of his life, but never camped or sailed in a boat until the ARC afforded him the opportunity.

The program provides respite to caretakers of developmentally disabled adults.

The consumers are responsible for direct costs associated with participating in the activities.

Marc noted that some consumers are unable to participate because of lack of funding.

The Oswego Sunrise Rotary is sponsoring a volleyball tournament to raise funds for ARC.

The event will be held on Aug. 20 at Cheap Seats Sports Bar and Grill.
