OSWEGO, NY – Congressman John M. McHugh (R- Pierrepont Manor) announced that Sprague Energy Corp. in Oswego has received a $19,339 grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
The grant was a part of DHS’s Infrastructure Protection Activities grant program.
“Securing our nation’s critical infrastructure is imperative. The funding for Sprague was included under the Port Security program, which provides grant funding to port areas for the increasing protection from terrorism,” said McHugh. “I am pleased the DHS chose to support security at Oswego with this funding.”
DHS’s Infrastructure Protection Activities grant program awards are used to strengthen security at ports and enhance transit, trucking and intercity bus systems.
Funds provided will be used to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters, and other emergencies.
The award to Sprague Energy Corp. was specific to the port security program, which supports sustainable, risk-based efforts to enhance access control and credentialing, protect against an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and other non-conventional attacks, and conduct exercises for disaster-response scenarios.
