SANDY CREEK – Michelle (Hurtibus) Slade announces her candidacy for a seat on the Sandy Creek Central School District’s Board of Education.
The Lacona resident is a graduate of the district and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
She has been married to her husband, Tim, for almost 28 years. They have one daughter and three grandchildren.
“I have more than 30 years’ experience in the management of multi-million dollar projects, policy/procedure development and process improvement,” she said. “I am an outgoing, honest and dedicated individual that takes great pride in my family, work and community.”
She is employed at Upstate University Hospital where she is a project manager working with all levels of staff to ensure efficiency and quality of care.
“I volunteer for If We Eat, They Eat Sandwich Saturday in Syracuse (targeting the homeless population), coach my granddaughter’s U6 T-ball team, volunteer for my granddaughter’s Girl Scout Troop and work to raise funds or clothing for families in need in our community,” she said.
“I am an effective communicator who values listening skills and respects the opinions of others. I have a long history of managing/oversight, policy/procedures and budget management,” she continued. “I also bring to the table a new set of eyes and will confront tough challenges head-on and with excitement. I’m willing to work toward decisions that BOE members and the community can support and will compromise when necessary to achieve goals.”
Her vision for the district is to graduate students who are accomplished in academics and/or a trade who are confident, generous and trustworthy.
She wants each student to be emotionally stable and know that they can make a difference and be who they choose to be while having the support of their high school.
And, that all administrators, faculty members and students feel respected and heard.
“Several things motivated me to run for the BOE seat. Among them are: being proud of our district and wanting to contribute to the future, students motivate me by showing who they are and how successful they can become whether that be in academics, a trade, athletics, drama club, robotics, etc,” she said. “The bottom line is that I want to give back and I feel I am at that place in my life to do so.”
