More Correctional Officers Needed

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I-Pulaski) today announced that the Department of Correctional Services is in the midst of a recruitment drive for more officers.

“Correction officers fulfill important and necessary duties in maximum and minimum security prisons throughout the state.  Their responsibilities range from supervising inmates, conducting searches for contraband and maintaining order,” said Barclay.  “Their lives are on the line when they are on the job,” Barclay added.

Starting trainee salary is $34,329. After six months of training, the salary increases and after completion of the one-year correction officer training, salary increases to $41,348.

A new civil service examination will be held on Oct. 18.  Filing deadline for the exam is Sept. 2.  Application forms are available at www.docs.state.ny.us.  Exam packets are also available at all Department of Labor offices and at the Assemblyman’s District Office.  To have an application mailed, call 598-5185 or e-mail a mailing address to [email protected].
