SCRIBA – More than 400 people packed into the Oswego County Highway Department facility Thursday (October 11) to get the latest in health care information, and to have some fun at State Senator Patty Ritchie’s Oswego County Senior Health and Wellness Fair.
“Thanks to wonderful local agencies, organizations and businesses, and of course the people of Oswego County, my Senior Health and Wellness Fairs continues to get better each year. Our seniors are not only getting the health information and screenings they need to live a healthier life, but they are able to spend a day with their friends, and even meet new friends, and enjoy their company,” Senator Ritchie said. “It still amazes me how many people choose to make their health and wellness a priority and take the time to learn what valuable resources we have right here in Oswego County.”
Seniors who attended Thursday’s fair were able to access health screenings, flu shots and free tips for staying healthy and active from more than 50 local organizations.
Senator Ritchie also teamed up with culinary students from CiTi BOCES to provide a free lunch for attendees.
Seniors were also able to get up and dance as a local band, ‘Anything Goes’ offered some musical entertainment.
During the event, Senator Ritchie honored two citizens with her “2018 Senior of the Year” award, Mary Buttaro of Oswego and Morris Sorbello of Fulton.
Mary was recognized for her volunteer work in Oswego County, and Morris for his contributions to Oswego County through his family onion farm and as an Oswego County Legislator.
In addition, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was on hand to offer information and to collect and properly dispose of people’s expired and unwanted prescription medications.
