More Than $400,000 in awards handed out to APW Seniors

More than $400,000 in scholarships, grants, and awards were handed out to graduating seniors from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School at their annual Senior Awards banquet.

Principal Jamie Coppola, along with teachers and staff members welcomed the seniors and their families for the presentation of awards.

The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Dollars for Scholars chapter presented 18 scholarship awards in the amount of $500 each to the following seniors from the class of 2014: Leianna Burke, Chelsea Cooper, Jared DeMarais, Jena Dupont, Andrew Hale, Michael Hale, Kerrigan Holley, Alexandra Hutchinson, Lacey Kowalski, Emilie Mullin, Shaylah Nichols, Lindzi Pfluger, Mikaela Pluff, Kaylee Schreyer, Erin Stever, Rachael Thormann, Katie VanBuskirk, and Kelsie Wilson.  Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers interested in providing financial assistance to local high school students pursuing higher education. The APW Dollars for Scholars chapter was formed in 1985 and since its inception has awarded over $250,000 to APW Seniors pursuing a post-secondary education.

Phillips Memorial Award; Amanda Barry: Club Renaissance Award; Ashley Bishop: APW Art Award; Jena Booth: Lynn Phillips Memorial Award; Tia Britton: Utica College Achievement Award, APW Civil Service Award, and Joseph Metott Memorial Award; Leianna Burke: Dollars for Scholars International Wire Scholarship, and “Special Friends” Scholarship; Shane Burrows: Nate Thomas Memorial Award, 2014 Scholarship for Academic Excellence, APW Honor Graduate, Ashbel Upson Ballister Award, Christopher S. Bullock Class of 2006 Memorial Award, and Rochelle Nicolette Perry Memorial Scholarship in Engineering.

Ty Christian: Joseph Metott Memorial Award; Chelsea Cooper: Ella Hanrahan Ballister Award, Class of 1989 Scholarship, Max Templeton Memorial Award, Keuka Presidential Scholarship, Elston A. Ecker Scholarship, APW Honor Graduate Award; Student Government School Service and Leadership Award, Dollars for Scholars John F. McCarty and General Fund Scholarship, and Oswego County Counselors’ Association Education Award; Jacob Davis: Science Club Award.

The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Honor Graduate Award recognizes seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement by earning a four year academic average of 90 or higher. Candidates for this award receive an honor cord to wear during their commencement ceremony. 2014 graduates earning this distinction at the school’s annual awards banquet were: Shane Burrows, Chelsea Cooper, Jared DeMarais, Andrew Hale, Kathleen Haskins, Colby Kennedy, Emilie Mullin, Shaylah Nichols, Lindzi Pfluger, Kaylee Schreyer, Erin Stever, Kalista Sutton, Rachael Thormann, and Heather Wood.
