FULTON – Fulton’s annual Big Truck Day promises some new big work vehicles for kids to explore as well as new food and more of the same fun and excitement that has made the event a family favorite. Big Truck Day 6, sponsored by Gypsum Express, takes place Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the War Memorial complex along Rt. 3 in Fulton. The first hour of the event is sensory-friendly, with all vehicles staying silent for those who are sensitive to noise. The festival is the creation of the non-profit Special Events Committee of Fulton, N.Y.
“Big Truck Day is a great day out for families. Youngsters can get behind the wheel of some really huge machines and imagine the important kinds of work they do. There’s great food and plenty of fun to be had,” said Crystal Bracy of the Special Events Committee. “Gypsum Express LTD has been a valued partner in making Big Truck Day a success, and we sincerely thank them for their continued sponsorship for the fourth consecutive year. Their ongoing support plays a vital role in bringing this beloved community event to life, creating a fun, engaging experience for families of all ages.”
Big Truck Day features lots of large work vehicles of all kinds. Vehicle operators are on hand to explain what they do and, when possible, to help youngsters get behind the wheel to see the controls first-hand. New this year, the New York State Department of Transportation will bring two of its largest snow movers – a double-wing plow truck and a truck-mounted snowblower – which are in constant use during Upstate New York’s snowy winters to keep highways open and safe.
Vehicles from fire departments including Fulton, Oswego, Cody, Granby, Volney and Cicero will be joined by Menter Ambulance and the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County’s mobile response trailer. The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department will bring its Rescue 1 and its ATV for operations in the woods. Race cars and more will be available inside the Community Center ice rink.
Our Truck Stop food court features four new vendors alongside four returning favorites. New this year: Nova’s Pit Stop Sips, featuring lemonades as well as dirty sodas and energy drinks; Kona Ice, featuring shaved ice treats; Mara’s Minis, a longtime local favorite offering freshly-fried donuts; and Mr. Mike’s Seafood, the food truck version of the longtime Fulton restaurant that closed last year. Returning are Red Pop Lemonade; Shannon’s Hotdogs; Toss & Fire Pizza; and Cruisin’ Cones.
Big Truck Day 6, sponsored by Gypsum Express, is one of four major events created and managed by the non-profit, all-volunteer Special Events Committee of Fulton, N.Y. The roster includes the annual Fall Festival, Christmas Tree Lighting event and the Community Market. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor or exhibitor can contact [email protected].
