NEW HAVEN – Jennifer Granholm knew that joining the Mexico Academy and Central School District would be the perfect fit for her.

The district’s core beliefs of putting students first, all students can learn, collaboration is essential to success and all are treated with dignity, among others, perfectly align with Granholm’s views on the importance of education.

“It feels like home here,” said Granholm, who was recently named the New Haven Elementary School principal.

She arrived at the district with nearly two decades of experience in education, spanning from an elementary teacher to elementary school principal to an administrative intern to most recently the assistant principal of the BOCES regional summer school in Cortland.

Granholm said she joined the education field because she wanted to teach children that it’s OK to take risks and that every start of the school year is a fresh start.

She began forming rapports with teachers and New Haven staff members this summer and said she looks forward to fostering positive, productive relationships with New Haven students, parents and guardians.

Her goals for the 2017-18 school year are to provide stability for staff members, develop a solid New Haven Elementary foundation and to work with students, their families and MACS staff members to improve the educational experience for all.

If nothing else, Granholm said there is one thing she will bring to school each day: a smile, which helps provide a positive, cheerful environment.

When not in school, Granholm enjoys the beach, live concerts, hosting family dinners and playing games, spending time with her Bull Mastiff, Sophie, and French Mastiff, Lucy; and supporting her husband at the race track.
