New York Sea Grant Joins Partners at CNY Boat Show Feb. 13-16

Offering Classes, Demos and a Career Day

OSWEGO COUNTY – New York Sea Grant will partner with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York (BIA) to offer boating safety courses and demonstrations as well as a maritime career day for youth and adults. Activities are set to take place during the Central New York Boat Show February 13-16 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

Marine Industry Career Day panel presentations are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13. A daytime program for youth in BOCES’ Power Sports program will feature members of BIA and marine trades representatives and a panel on careers in the marine trades will run from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Expo Center meeting room.

The required New York State Boater Safety Certification course and exam for youth ages 10-17 will be taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and New York Sea Grant on Saturday, February 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class is offered free of charge in the Expo Center conference room.

Each youth who signs up for the course will receive three free admission tickets to the 2025 CNY Boat Show. Registration is required, contact New York Sea Grant Great Lakes Recreation and Tourism Specialist John Cannaday at 315-849-4436. The adult course scheduled at the show has been filled.

Additional activities offered by New York Sea Grant and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary include the following daily boating safety demonstrations:

  • How to use traditional pop-cap marine flares (other types of flares, including electronic visual distress signals will be on exhibit); and
  • How to select and use approved inflatable personal flotation devices

The New York Sea Grant’s boater education exhibit at the show also features the 2025 Discover Clean & Safe Boating education vessel with the required equipment for environmentally friendly boating on New York waters; bilingual (English and Spanish) information on beach and boating hazards; and New York State Boating Guides (while supplies last).


More than 400 new models of power, sail and non-motorized boats, personal watercraft, previously enjoyed boats, docks and boating accessories will be on exhibit at the CNY Boat Show. The show runs from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
