OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego High School Lady softball team recently received a grant from $4,500 from the Novelis Cans for Community Committee.
Softball Coach Mike McCrobie and player Taylor Maas made the trip to the Novelis facility to accept the generous donation to the program.
McCrobie noted, “This grant has been earmarked for a fence for the varsity softball field. It is the final piece to the renovations of the softball field that began with the dugout project in 2002 and continued with the scoreboard efforts in 2009. Each phase of this was a result of collaboration among the business community, the school, and the softball program.”
Ryan Tamayo, of Novelis, told McCrobie, “Congratulations on a successful can recycling campaign this past year. Through your efforts over 33,000 aluminum cans were recycled, generating just under $1,700 for the Novelis Cans for the Community Fund. Through the committee’s experience with past can drives, we know the level of participation necessary to hit such large recycling numbers, so you are to be commended for this achievement.”
Continuing Tamayo said, “On behalf of the Novelis Cans for Community Committee it is my pleasure to award Oswego high School a grant of $4,500 to be used toward a portable barrier/fence for the school’s athletic fields. We look forward to supporting our community’s student athletes and giving them the best opportunities to become well rounded individuals. Through this award we hope to give them pride in their hearts and an additional spring in their step as they walk across their upgraded field.”
McCrobie concluded by saying, “We greatly appreciate everything that Novelis has done and continues to do in support of the Oswego City School District and the Oswego Athletic Department.”
