OCO Joins REACH CNY For Community Health Education Day

FULTON, NY – Working in conjunction with REACH CNY, Oswego County Opportunities will host a health education workshop entitled Women, STD’s and Pregnancy.

The workshop, set for April 20, is part of REACH CNY’s first Community Health Education Day and also coincides with National STD Awareness Month.

The workshop will feature a presentation by Resource Coordinator with REACH CNY Steve Wood.

Wood has worked in the communicable disease field since 1985 and has completed advanced course work in microbiology with a focus on sexually transmitted infection and disease.

According to OCO Health Educator and Outreach Worker, Janelle Hutchinson, the workshop will outline prevention, transmission, treatment, and the effect that an unrelated STD may have on pregnancy and delivery.

“This training is intended to create a network of competent educators and provide them with the information, materials and resources necessary to facilitate one-on-one or group informal sessions that will help to increase the health of our communities,” said Hutchinson.

While the workshop is of special interest to those who work in any health related field, the workshop is open to the public and will provide community members with valuable information that they will be able to share with others.

In addition to the training, representatives from several health related programs that are available in Oswego County will be on hand to distribute information and answer any questions those in attendance may have.  Participating programs / organizations include:

  • OCO’s Health Education Service
  • The OCO Fulton and Oswego Health Centers
  • The Rural and Migrant Ministries of Oswego County
  • OCO’s Youth and Family Services
  • The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Services
  • OCO’s Migrant Services
  • Backstreet Books
  • OCO’s Woman, Infants and Children

The Women, STD’s and Pregnancy workshop will be held April 20 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the board room at Oswego County Opportunities’ main office, 239 Oneida St.

Refreshments will be served.

Those interested in attending the workshop must pre-register.
