FULTON – For seniors in the greater Pulaski area Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Dining and Activity Center, referred to as “The Landing Social Club & Café”, provides them with an opportunity to enjoy a great meal, partake in entertaining activities, and develop new friendships.
Located at Selkirk Landing, 96 Bella Drive in Pulaski, The Landing Social Club & Café fills a significant gap in the northern part of the county, offering much-needed services for the senior community.
“When we lost our locations in Sandy Creek and Pulaski several years ago there was nothing in this area for seniors,” explained Coordinator of OCO Nutrition Services Lori Halstead. “When OCO partnered with the developer to establish Selkirk Landing we were excited to learn that the project would include space for a senior dining and activity center. We opened the center in October of 2023 and it has been a welcomed addition to the community.”
Open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Landing Social Club & Cafe welcomes all community members aged 60 and over. Lunch is served at 12:00 Noon with plenty of time for activities before and after the meal. For those requiring transportation Oswego County Office of the Aging provides an OCO bus service that will pick individuals up at their homes and bring them to the center. Additionally, on Tuesdays there is an optional shopping trip for those interested.
“It’s a great place to come for good food and companionship,” said Center Manager Brianne (Bri) Keller. “Our guests really enjoy their time here. Many of them arrive as soon as we open and stay until we close. It makes for a fun afternoon as we offer a variety of entertainment, from trivia contests and games to birthday parties, and holiday celebrations…all while enjoying a nutritious and filling lunch!”
“Bri is an amazing person,” said Halstead. “Our managers reflect the dynamics of each center. She has done an outstanding job promoting and overseeing the center. We’re serving an average of 20 meals daily at the Pulaski location.”
While attendance at the center has grown since opening, Keller is looking forward to welcoming even more guests and expanding activities. “I envision offering more challenging and educational activities and bringing in guest speakers to introduce arts and crafts projects, meal preparation, painting, and other thought provoking and enjoyable activities.”
Thanks to funding from the Oswego County Office of the Aging (OFA,) the cost to attend and enjoy a nutritious meal at any of OCO’s Dining and Activity Centers is a suggested contribution of $3.00 for each lunch meal. The contributions are made directly to OFA, and it helps support the services offered.
In addition to the Selkirk Landing Social Club & Cafe, OCO operates Senior Dining and Activity Centers at the Municipal Building, 141 South First St. in Fulton; the Central Square Community Church, 833 Rt. 11 in Central Square; the Lighthouse Mexico Church of God, 11 S. Jefferson St. in Mexico; the New Hope Church, 814 Rider St. in Parish; and at the Congregational Church, 43 Bridge St. in Phoenix.
