“The day proved to be very successful as we were able to hear from many legislators and had the opportunity to meet and educate our local legislators about the services we provide here in Oswego County,” said Patrick Waite, OCO’s senior director of residential services.

The team from OCO included Waite, resident counselor Matthew Schultz and consumer Bryan Heffler.

Heffler was very excited about his experience, as it was his first time in Albany and meeting a senator.

Schultz also felt the trip was worthwhile as he was able to point out that agencies need the resources to recruit and retain good direct support staff for the consumers.

Waite noted this was an especially important year to attend, as “all agencies are struggling with challenges to continue to provide quality services resulting from funding cuts and threats, and rising costs due to inflation in our current economic climate.”
