OHS Senior Named ‘Musician Of The Month’

OSWEGO, NY – Evelyn Horan is the Oswego High School Bands’ “Musician of the Month” for November 2010.

Evelyn is the principal flautist in the Oswego High School Wind Ensemble.

She has been a featured soloist with the Marching Buccaneers on both flute and voice.

She earned a position in the 2010 NYSSMA Conference All State Symphonic Band by scoring a perfect score (100 out of 100 possible points) on her solo performance audition in May of 2009.

Evelyn competed with nearly 4,000 students for one of the positions in the Conference All State Band; it is a huge accomplishment. Evelyn studies with Steve Defren at OHS and is a private flute student of Kris Jorgensen in Oswego.

Evelyn also plays piano and sings. She is a member of the OHS Jazz Ensemble “A” and was featured in 2009 as a vocal soloist in addition to her duties as pianist in the ensemble.

She has earned positions, through competitive auditions, in the Oswego County All County Band and Orchestra, as well as the Area All State bands. She is currently a member of the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dr. James Tappia.

Evelyn has earned Top 25 honors at OHS, and currently has achieved Highest Honors status academically.

She earned a $40,000 Leadership Scholarship to Clarkson University. In addition to making music, Evelyn loves to make jewelry, design clothes, making clothing and making music videos.
