OHS Student-Athletes Gain NYS Academic Honors

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego High School winter student-athletes celebrated success in the classroom as the majority of teams earned the status of New York State Scholar-Athlete Team.

The girls’ varsity basketball team earned a 97.469% team average behind the academic accomplishments of Katie Abramski, Michele Canale, Lindsay Johnson, Marissa Canale, Sarah Hill, Alexis Gillard, Michaela Auer, Emily Barlow, Brooke Reifinger and Amber Earl.

The boy’s varsity basketball team achieved a 93.129% which was compiled by Dan Montagnola, Ryan Patrick, Griffin Mervine, James Metcalf, Macaulay Porter, Troy Norton, Christopher Morley and Joshua McRae.

A 92.854% was earned by Mason Rabalais, Zach Gerber, Jeremy Galvin, Josh Costo, Drake Becksted, Luke Familo, Alexander Shannon, James Dillon, William McSweeney, Josh Saternow, Joseph Corradino and Thomas Handley of the boys’ varsity swimming team.

The girls’ ice hockey team earned a 92.477% average due to the work of Lainey Celeste, Sarah Mancuso, Caroline Dougherty, Danielle Faivus, Sarah Gosek, Sage Dudley, Taite Phillips, Karissa Favata, Allison Yule, Kaitlin Friel, Tessa Opet, Erika Lazzaro, Taylar Cianfarano, Whitney Daino, Madisyn Whalen, Caty Darling and Devyn Hutcheson.

The girls’ varsity indoor track team earned a 92.230% team average because of the efforts by Alexis Files, Karly Babcock, Ashley Deveney, Rachel Healy, Pia Steiner, Eliza Parker, Mara Parker, Whitney Ford, Bridgette Auyer, Michelle Champagne, Kaylie Allen and Courtney Gazda.

Meanwhile, the boys varsity ice hockey team had a 91.918% average with Mike Brown, John Phillips, Sam Czarnecki, Jared Cooper, Trent Yule, Fred Donabella, Ryan Ramsey, Matt Donovan, David Morgia, Rick Uribe, Matt Lloyd, Josh Sova, Chase Izyk, Cody Mariano, Matt Howard, Austin Tracz and Colin Joyce.

The varsity cheerleaders earned a 91.20% behind the efforts of Chelsee Brockwell, Meghan Carl, Kaitlin Casaletta, Cassy Crisafulli, Jasmine Davis, Catie Furletti, Chelsea Oughterson, Lindsay Rose, Caitlin Sawyer and Chelsea Sereno.

The boys’ varsity “B” team had a 91.149% average as the result of the academic accomplishments of Bryan Cary, David Culeton, Jordan Darling, Jon Kaplewicz, Travis Kearns, Daniel Maniccia, Chris Pike, Jeremy Purce, Sean Mooney, Paul Bradshaw, Chris Bonner, David Mathes, Brandon Tracz and Josh Cooley.
