OI’s Career Employment Services Take Part in Disability Mentoring Day

Fulton, NY – Oswego Industries, Inc. through its Career Employment Services division recently took part in Oswego County Disability Mentoring Day, hosted collaboratively by the Oswego County Placement Network.

The 6th Annual Oswego County Disability Mentoring Day was kicked off with a breakfast at the American Foundry in Oswego and accompanied by presentations by Gary McIlvain of Komac Industries, Inc., Tammy Thompson of Oswego County Health Department and a proclamation from the office of Assemblyman William Barclay.

At the conclusion of the morning program, attendees spent the afternoon in the community paired with mentors from across the county for employment training and job shadowing.

“October is Disability Employment Awareness Month and this event is a great way for us to create relationships with employers in Oswego County.” said Teresa Gilbert, Job Placement Specialist for Career Employment Services at OI. “This collaborative effort is only one of the key pieces to placing and retaining employment for people with disabilities.”

Community Mentors for the day included Kathy’s Cakes & Specialty Treats, Morning Star, Mrs. Rogers Neighborhood, Oswego County Building & Grounds, Oswego County Employment & Training, Plumbers & Steamfitters Local #73, Price Chopper Supermarkets in Fulton and Oswego, Ruby Tuesdays in Oswego and Uniforms Etc.

The Oswego County Placement Network is comprised of ACCES-VR, Arise, Oswego Industries, Inc., COCOAA, J. H. Burnash & Company, Inc., New York State Department of Labor, New York State Jobs Program and Oswego County Workforce New York.
