OSWEGO, NY – As the most recent school year wound down the members of the Oswego Middle School Fun (Friends Understanding Nature) Club traveled to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo for a day filled with learning and fun.
Advisor Catherine Celeste said, “Students raised money to travel to the zoo for the day and to have small groups each led by tour guides who were able to provide in-depth explanations of the animals.”
Additionally, the students raised $100 and decided to participate in the “Adopt an Animal” program by becoming “collection managers.”
Celeste explained, “The students voted to adopt the zoo’s snow leopard. This donation helps in the general care of the animal at the zoo.”
Additionally, six tickets to the zoo picnic, fact sheets on snow leopards, a personalized adoption certificate, a photo of the snow leopard, a plush stuffed animal, a magnet, backpack and two complimentary zoo passes were given away in a drawing to students who made the trip.
Celeste said, “Students had a wonderful day of learning and doing their part in conservation efforts.”
