The magical world of Mother Goose was brought to life during the Fulton City School District Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program’s recent Family Literacy Night.
Held at the Fulton Education Center, current UPK students and their family members enjoyed an evening of literacy-infused activities related to some of Mother Goose’s most popular nursery rhymes including: Humpty Dumpty, Jack Be Nimble, and Little Miss Muffet.
As a special surprise, Mother Goose herself even stopped by for the event.
She greeted the UPK students, read some of her favorite stories to those in attendance, and invited students to select a new book to take home with them.
The Fulton City School District will be accepting applications for the 2013-2014 UPK program on April 11 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 4 – 7 p.m. at Fairgrieve, Granby, Lanigan, and Volney elementary schools.
UPK is a two and one-half hour morning or afternoon program offered at each elementary school in partnership with Oswego County Opportunities, First Step Universal Pre-K, and the Fulton YMCA.
The primary purpose of UPK is to provide four year old children future school success by developing strong skills in early literacy and numeracy.
The program is free for district residents and eligible children must turn four years old by December 1, 2013.
Parents are encouraged to bring the following records with them when registering a student for UPK: child’s original birth certificate (with raised seal), up-to-date immunization record, and proof of residency.
