Oswego AmeriCorps Program Is Accepting Applications for Several Positions

OSWEGO- Oswego AmeriCorps is a national service program that serves youth inOswegoCounty. AmeriCorps members mentor youth and provide fitness and nutrition activities in local communities. Applications are now being accepted for one 300-hour position atPalermoNuRuTeenCenterand for 29 900-hour positions across the county.

The 300-hour position inPalermowill start immediately and run until Dec. 31.  The hours of the teen center are Thursdays from5to8 p.m., Fridays from5to8 p.m.and Sundays from2to8 p.m.Applicants should be available to work at those times each week. Applicants should have a high school diploma and a desire to work with youth. The person selected for this position would receive a living allowance totaling $2,072 while serving in the program. When all requirements are completed, the member would receive a $1,000 education award that can be used for tuition or students loans at qualifying institutions.

The 900-hour positions are at sites around the county. These positions start on Sept. 1. Members in these positions would serve from nine to twelve months and receive a living allowance totaling $6,399. After completing the hour commitment and other requirements, the member would receive an education award of $2,675 that can be used for tuition or the repayment of student loans at qualifying institutions.

Applicants must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma/equivalent or be in the process of obtaining one. There is no upper age limit. Each individual site may be looking for applicants with specific education or work experience requirements.

For the current program year, AmeriCorps members have served at APW Schools,FairgrieveElementary School, Fulton Family YMCA,HannibalHigh School,Leighton Elementary School,MexicoElementary School,New HavenElementary School, Oswego Public Library,PalermoElementary Schooland many other sites.
