Mark Neivel (Mexico) a student at Oswego County BOCES returned recently from the National SkillsUSA Competition in Kansas City where he finished seventh overall in a field of approximately 54 competitors from across the country. Neivel, who competed in the plumbing category, advanced to the Nationals by placing first in the New York State SkillsUSA event in Syracuse in early April.
More than 5,000 winners from the state competitions traveled to Kansas City to compete hands-on in more than 90 different competitions showcasing their expertise in technical, trade and leadership fields.
For his participation in the SkillsUSA event, Neivel received tools valued at approximately $800 from Milwaukee.
Neivel returned home to Mexico early from the competition in order to participate in his high school graduation.
SkillsUSA brings students, teachers and representatives from business and industry together to ensure a skilled workforce in technical, skilled and service occupations in this country. SkillsUSA has served more than 9.6 million members with over 300,000 student and instructors members annually.
