Oswego County Community Unites to Support Local Families Through Diaper Drives

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Early Childhood Alliance (OCECA), a division of Integrated CommunityPlanning of Oswego County, Inc., brought the community together last month to recognize National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 14-20 and support the Oswego County Diaper Bank.

OCECA invited local organizations, businesses, schools and libraries to host diaper drives throughout the month and the community responded with tremendous generosity. Diaper drives were hosted by Oswego County Opportunities,Inc.; CiTi BOCES; Just Stylin’; Fairgrieve Elementary; Fulton Public Library; Parish Public Library; Pulaski Public Library; Trinity Catholic School; and Oswego County Workforce New York.

Together, these organizations and the community members who supported their drives collected 5,478 diapers and 24 packages of wipes to help local families. In addition, OCECA received $140 in monetary donations, which will go toward purchasing approximately 700 additional diapers!

Thanks to the generosity of the Oswego County community, 123 local children will receive an extra supply of 50 diapers through the Oswego County Diaper Bank.

“Community support like this makes a meaningful difference for our families,” said Sidney Carter, coordinator of theOswego County Early Childhood Alliance. “We are incredibly grateful to every organization that hosted a diaper drive and to each individual who donated. Their generosity will help ensure that families in Oswego County have access to diapers, an essential resource for young children.”

Diaper need can create a significant financial burden for families with young children and diaper drives provide an important source of support for them. The event also brings organizations and residents together around a shared commitment to the health and well-being of local children.

“The response from our community demonstrates what can happen when we work together to meet a critical need,”Carter added. “Every diaper donated represents one more resource available to a local child and family.”

OCECA and Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, Inc. extend their sincere appreciation to all of the organizations, businesses, schools, libraries, staff, volunteers and community members who participated in the September diaper drives and helped make this effort a success.
