Oswego County Traffic Safety Board Honors National Car Seat Day Sept. 26

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board (OCTSB) hosts an event in honor of National Car Seat Check Day, Saturday, Sept. 26. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their child’s car seat to the Oswego City Fire Department, 35 E. Cayuga St., for review between noon and 3 p.m. that day.

“Spring to fall presents a big window of opportunity for families to have their car seats thoroughly examined,” said Oswego County Traffic Safety Board Coordinator Gavin Wandersee. “There are a variety of car seats on the market, so there are many factors that can contribute to a seat being incorrectly installed. We’re here to help parents and caregivers review their set-up and ensure their child’s riding safety.”

About 80% of car seats in Oswego County are improperly installed, so OCTSB and its network of car seat techs address this issue by hosting car seat check events or helping families by appointment.

The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board promotes and encourages car seat safety among its many other traffic safety initiatives. These include bike and pedestrian rodeos, driver education presentations, CarFit events and mock DWI exercises.

OCTSB members include representatives from emergency services, public health, STOP-DWI and the Traveling Memorial Wall for Fallen Bikers.
