Oswego County VSA Invites Veterans to ‘Horsepower and Heroes’ Sept. 5

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Veterans’ Services Agency (VSA) invites veterans to enjoy a night of racing action during Empire Super Sprints Championship Night on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Fulton Speedway, located at 1603 Co. Rte. 57, Fulton. Free tickets are available for veterans, who will be saluted for their service at the event.

“We’re thrilled that our VSA is offering this special evening of racing and camaraderie in honor of our veterans,” said Oswego County Legislator Michael Solowy, District 23, chairman of the Legislature’s Human Services Committee. “This is a meaningful opportunity to come together and celebrate the strength, courage and commitment of those who have served our country and thank them for their sacrifice.”

Veterans can go to the main gate at 4:45 p.m. to get their tickets. Gates open at 5 p.m., with hot laps at 5:50 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

“This is just one of the many events we’re proud to offer through our local Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program,” said Oswego County VSA Director Eric Boozer. “In October, we’ll be hosting a special ‘Salute to the Troops’ racing event, with more activities planned throughout the year. The Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program was founded in memory of PFC Joseph P. Dwyer, who served as a combat medic for the U.S. Army in Iraq. The nation-wide program serves to provide support to veterans facing a wide range of challenges regarding their overall well-being and re-integration into civilian life.

The Legislature’s Human Services Committee oversees the VSA. In addition to Legislator Solowy, committee members include Vice Chairwoman Noelle Salmonsen, District 21; Joseph Arduini, District 22; Mary Ellen Chesbro, District 10; Richard Kline, District 12; Linda Lockwood, District 11; and Ryan Taylor, District 25.
