OSWEGO, NY – Primary Care Physician Kamran Khan, M.D., will join the staff of Oswego Health’s Parish Primary Care Health Center in mid-August.
Dr. Khan recently completed his family practice residency at the Grand Rapids Medical Educational & Research Center at Michigan State University. He graduated from the University of Punjab’s Allama Iqbal Medical School in Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr. Khan’s interest in becoming a physician was sparked by the family physician that cared for him and his family in Pakistan.
“Our doctor had a kind and gentle way of caring for my family,†Dr. Khan said. “I liked that continuality of care he provided the family.”
Dr. Khan said he was looking forward to providing the same type of care to his patients at the Parish Health Services Center.
“I believe in treating the individual as a whole and taking into account any social or emotional concerns,†he said. “It’s not treating one problem, but the whole individual.â€ÂÂ
During his medical school training he volunteered for several important medical causes.
Dr. Khan provided oral polio vaccinations at temporary clinics in underserved areas in Pakistan, and helped to coordinate blood drives.
Among the attributes that attracted him to Parish were the friendliness of the residents and that community’s close-knit size.
The geographic location was further appealing as family members, including his parents, live part of the year in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
While growing up, Dr. Khan spent four years in Canada, where he is a citizen.
Along with having a family physician as a role model, Dr. Khan himself has numerous relatives who are practicing physicians.
Each of his three siblings is married to a physician, and his wife, Madiha, who has completed her medical school training, will begin her residency this fall.
