Oswego High School Graduates to Perform

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Opera Theater is presenting a pleasant holiday season surprise for the Oswego area.

The “Welcome Back” concert, scheduled for November 11 in Waterman Theater at SUNY-Oswego (2:30 p.m.), will feature six OHS graduates, an OHS teacher, two students with ties to SUNY-Oswego, and three artists making their Oswego debuts.

OHS graduates who will be performing include David Artz, Elizabeth Enwright and Stephen Lavonier.

David Artz
David Artz

Artz, a graduate of Syracuse University, has sung with the Syracuse Opera Company, Syracuse University Opera Theatre, the Operafestival di Roma and AIMS in Graz programs, and the Accademia Europea dell’Opera program.

He is now enrolled at Peabody Conservatory as a Master’s Degree candidate in Voice, and is singing with the Peabody Conservatory Opera Theater.

A high lyric tenor, he has sung in French, Italian, and German styles, and in both serious and light-hearted, comic roles. His last musical theater role as an OHS student was his memorable performance as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.

Elizabeth Enwright
Elizabeth Enwright

Enwright previously appeared in Oswego Opera Theater productions of La Traviata and Carmen.

On Waterman Theater’s stage, she also has appeared in Songs for the New World and Into the Woods, in conjunction with SUNY-Oswego’s Music and Theatre departments.

Enwright has worked extensively with SUNY-Oswego’s excellent music faculty, having studied private voice, piano, and clarinet, and having performed with State Singers and Wind Ensemble groups.

Enwright was first educated at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY.

In 2008, she made her Carnegie Hall debut, singing with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Hank Dahlman.

Stephen Lavonier
Stephen Lavonier

Lavonier graduated from the Hartt School of Music (Hartford, Conn.), and received his master’s degree in music from SUNY-Purchase.

A baritone, Stephen has sung numerous roles in Europe and North America.  He was the winner of Mercury Opera’s Coney Island Pagliacci contest, where he sang the role of Silvio.  Lavonier also sang recently in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly.

He has performed in New York City with the Dicapo Opera and Opera Manhattan, and in Szeged, Hungary, at Cornell University, and at George Mason University.

In addition, Lavonier was part of the internationally televised Mezzo Competition, and spent a season with Tri-Cities Opera in southern New York.
