OSWEGO, New York – Nathan Hibbert, a graduating senior from Oswego High School, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the David A. Sterio Memorial Music Scholarship.
Hibbert will attend Ithaca College this fall, where he plans to major in Music Performance with a concentration in clarinet. Hibbert, the son of Stephanie and Larry Hibbert of Oswego, has set his sights on earning advanced degrees and becoming a college professor, helping inspire future generations of musicians through education and performance.
An accomplished musician and student leader, Hibbert has distinguished himself through years of dedication to music and the arts. His achievements include participation in Oswego High School Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A and B, Senior High All-County, Area All-State, NYSSMA Solo Festivals, the NYSSMA Conference All-State Ensemble, the John Philip Sousa National High School Honor Band, and numerous other musical and extracurricular activities. He has also been recognized with a Gold Rating at the American Music Abroad Tour.
“Nathan embodies so many of the qualities that David valued throughout his life,” said Jill Sterio, David’s wife. “His passion for music, commitment to excellence, and desire to share his talents with others make him an incredibly deserving recipient. David believed that music has the power to change lives, and Nathan’s accomplishments and aspirations reflect that same spirit. We are honored to support him as he begins this exciting next chapter.”
“We are also thrilled that Nathan will continue his education at Ithaca, the alma mater of David,” she added.
In his application, Hibbert shared that music has been a lifelong passion and that he hopes to use his talents to teach and mentor future musicians.
