One of the groups in the LIFE program at Oswego Industries, Inc. has been trying their hand — and foot — at karate classes.
The small group has been taking classes for a few weeks at LaVallee’s USA Black Belt Champions, practicing not only martial arts moves but also techniques for avoiding confrontations.
Instructor Jim Munger of the Clay dojo teaches the class with patience and humor, encouraging each participant to do their best and stressing the ethics and values of the martial arts.
Oswego Industries, Inc. is a not-for-profit Community Rehabilitation Program which has been providing services to adults with intellectual disabilities since 1968.
The LIFE program brings small groups of such adults into the community on short trips to explore interests, build skills, and promote community inclusion.
