Oswego Library Supports Rotary Peace Pole Project

OSWEGO – On September 26 the Oswego Rotary Club will dedicate Oswego’s new Peace Pole at 4:30pm in Veterans Park. This is part of a global initiative founded in 1955 to spread the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” There are currently over 250,000 Peace Poles worldwide. They stand as symbols of unity, compassion and shared humanity.

To provide resources to help to both understand what peace looks like and how to implement it in our own lives, relationships, community, nation and world, the Oswego Public Library is providing peace resources.  Librarian Edward Elsner has organized a display of resources. These include books, movies and other resources appropriate for all ages. These address the many aspects of peace, from inner peace to interpersonal relations to issues of conflict resolution and world peace.

If there weren’t resources available in the Oswego Library, Elsner borrowed from other libraries. The attached picture shows Elsner with a display of these resources which he organized. Elsner is available to answer questions. Information can also be found on the library website at oswegopubliclibrary.org.

The Oswego Rotary Club is excited about the opportunity to bring our community together around the goal of working together for peace in our own lives and in our world and appreciative of the important role of the Oswego Public Library.
